Mini-SSmarTs – Social communication for pre-teens
Mini SSmarTs @ PiC, 2018 – (Social Smarts for Pre-Teens)
This program is a new initiative at Partners in Communication and has evolved from the high interest in our similar program for older students.
It is a program for pre-teens of upper-primary school age who struggle with managing the social dynamic at home, at school and with friends. We offer social groups that use best practice related to managing the social world and emotional regulation. Much of our focus will use the Social Thinking ® methodology (www.socialthinking.com), but other strategies will be incorporated as well.
It is best suited to those students who have language and cognitive skills within the normal range but who struggle with social communication and emotional regulation or have a diagnosis of High Functioning Autism or ADHD.
The program is a term–based program as a minimum (or the equivalent) but may extend longer depending on the group interest.
Parents will return at the end of the session where they will receive feedback with the Speech Pathology facilitator. A series of 5 optional evening sessions are available to parents during the term program. These will provide an opportunity to discuss how to best support and reinforce concepts between group sessions and to be able to ask questions and discuss issues in a supportive adult environment.
Minimum numbers required.
Cost – $135 per 90min session, $160 initial appointment
